TRAINING 4 - DESIGN SPRINT

A ONE DAY IMMERSION FOR YOUR TEAM

TRAINING 4: ONE DAY DESIGN SPRINT

A one-day design sprint is a condensed, highly-focused workshop where a team collaboratively tackles a design challenge from start to finish in a single day. It's derived from the five-day design sprint method developed by Google Ventures, but adapted to fit into a much shorter timeframe with the augmentation of AI.

 

Here’s how it typically works and how it can be facilitated in a One-Day-Design Sprint

​1. Empathize with the Target Customer

Creating an ideal customer profile with AI.

 

2. Define the Problem (1 hour)

Goal: Articulate the problem or challenge. Define Problem statements.

User personas, journey maps, and value propositions.

3.A -  Prototyping

Sketch and Write Solutions (1 hour) with AI

Goal: Generate a wide range of ideas.

Activities: Individual sketching (Crazy 8s: sketching 8 ideas in 8 minutes)

Sharing and discussing sketches with the group

Decide on the Best Solution (1 hour)

Goal: Select the most promising ideas.

Discuss and combine ideas to form a coherent solution (SCAMPER exercise)

3.B - Prototyping

Storyboarding the chosen solution

Prototype (2-3 hours)

Goal: Build a tangible prototype.

Activities: Creating a low-fidelity prototype using tools like paper, digital wireframes, or simple mockups

Assign roles (e.g., prototype creator, asset gatherer)

Test (1-2 hours)

Goal: Validate the prototype with real users.

Activities: Conducting quick user testing sessions, Gathering feedback and observations,

 

4. Discussing insights and potential next steps

Present the ideas and prototypes

Reflect on the process and outcomes.

About Ulrike Kerber 

Ulrike Kerber is the Principal and Design Lead at Viva Design Inc. She provides brand design, animations, and content creation to global clients such as Disney, BBC, TEDx, and Viacom. She is known for her creativity and innovation. 

She holds an MA in Communication Design and an MA in Digital Management from Hyper Island. Her research explores the intersection of creativity and Artificial Intelligence. She conducts workshops in Design Thinking, Speculative Design, Motion Design, and experimental storytelling. Her research is published in her latest book "The Best AI Tools for Designers", is available here.
